In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 14th, 1997, Xay Champasouk was with approximately seven people in a duplex playing cards located at #16A Lutie Street when two black males wearing camo, masks and gloves entered the duplex and robbed the occupants. A fight broke out between Champasouk and the robbers which resulted in Champasouk being shot multiple times and his father-in-law, who had come over from next door, being non-fatally shot while the others were able to scatter unharmed. Champasouk succumbed to his injuries while in surgery. Xay Champasouk was 31 years old at the time of his death.
