On Tuesday, January 13th, 1998 just after 11:00pm, Dorris Eugene Harding was sitting in a car with a friend at the corner of N. 9th Street and Ramsey Street when two black males, dressed in all black with ski masks, approached the car and demanded that Harding get out of the car give them his money. His friend fled from the car and when she looked back, Harding was getting pulled from the vehicle and she heard gunshots. Harding was shot during the altercation and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Dorris Eugene Harding was 45 years old at the time of his death.
