Just before 5:00am on Saturday, October 4th, 1997, William Kenneth Townsend was standing near the corner of Evanston Avenue and North 5th Street when a white Ford Bronco pulled up to him. There was an argument between Townsend and the men in the Bronco resulting in the man in the passenger seat pulling out a gun and shooting him before driving off. Townsend was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injury a few hours later. The two men in the Bronco were described as white males. William Kenneth Townsend was 37 years old at the time of his death.
