At approximately 2:30am on Friday, September 15th, 1989, a K-9 officer on patrol noticed a man lying on the side of Jo Johnson Street near 11th Avenue North and stopped to check on him. The officer found James Thomas Townsend suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Townsend was able to briefly speak with the officer about the incident before falling into unconsciousness. Townsend succumbed to his injuries a short time later. James Thomas Townsend was 60 years old at the time of his death.
