On Thursday, October 24th, 1985, around 3:30pm Henry M. Cater was shot multiple times while sitting in the driver’s seat of his white 4-door 1984 Oldsmobile at the intersection of Settle Court and Meridian Street. In an attempt to drive away from the shooter, he backed his car into a brown 1984 Pontiac parked behind him, then changed gears and sped forward making it onto the next block before succumbing to his injuries and striking the back of a white and brown 4-door 1976 Buick parked on the side of Meridian Street. The owner of the Buick was notified that his car was struck and when he and his friends went to see what happened, discovered Cater slumped over on the front seat of the car and called the police. According to statements, a black male was standing holding a gun on the passenger side of the Oldsmobile engaged in a confrontation with Cater when he stepped back and shot at Cater in the vehicle multiple times and then fled on foot.
