1970-081505 – Evelyn Foster

A little past 5:00pm on Friday, July 24th, 1970, retired school teacher Evelyn Foster and her sister were just finishing dinner at her residence at 1506 Hawkins St. when they heard a knock at the door. Foster went to answer the door and man asked if he could use the phone to call a wrecker. The man came in, used the phone, then started demanding money and beating Foster. Her sister came out from the kitchen after hearing Foster scream and the man again demanded money and threatened to kill her. He also demanded a gun he claimed Foster had showed him the previous week. The man ended up leaving without anything. He was described as a black male, approximately 6’ to 6’3” and 165 pounds. Foster suffered blunt force trauma and succumbed to her injuries. Evelyn Foster was 80 years old at the time of her death.
