On Tuesday, July 29th, 1969, a man was diving in the Cumberland River near McGavock Pike when he came across a submerged car. He reached inside and thought he felt a body. When police pulled the maroon 4-door 1967 Pontiac LeMans from the river, they discovered Dalton E. Jenkins inside. He had been stabbed and shot. Dalton Jenkins was 38 years old at the time of his death.
