At approximately 5:00am on Sunday, March 23rd, 1969, two armed men came into the Thoni Service Station located at 2504 Charlotte Pike where Henry Lee Swindle, Sr. was working, and demanded money. Swindle, who was also armed, attempted to defend himself and was fatally shot before he could return fire. The gunmen were described as two white males with stockings over their heads, both approximately 5’6” in height. Henry Lee Swindle, Sr. was 55 years old at the time of his death.
