At approximately 7:30pm on Monday, June 8th, 1987, Carolyn Ann Phillips returned to her car after completing her shopping at the Kroger grocery store located at 711 Gallatin Road. She had returned to the driver’s seat of her red Ford Tempo after her groceries were loaded into the car when a man approached her window. When the man attempted to rob her, she started honking her car horn. The man then fatally shot Phillips multiple times. The man seen fleeing the car was a muscular black male in his late 20s or early 30s. Carolyn Ann Phillips was 45 years old at the time of her death.
