1983-063357 – Harold Simmons

At approximately 1:00am on Sunday, April 17th, 1983, Harold J. Simmons and his traveling companion returned to his truck after eating at the Key Stop Truck Stop on Trinity Lane off I-24. After assisting his companion back into the truck, Simmons did his routine tire check around the truck where he was approached by two men who robbed and then shot him multiple times. Multiple witnesses saw the two black men fleeing the parking lot on foot. Harold J. Simmons was a resident of Liberty, North Carolina and was 51 years old at the time of his death.
