Around 4:30pm on Friday, October 17th, 1975 two armed black males in their early 20s entered Kay’s Market located at 101 Lewis Avenue and told everyone to go to the back of the store and said, “this is a holdup.” One of the store clerks was able to get out to go across the street to get Leroy Davis. Davis had told them to come get him if they needed him. The two men were coming out of the store as Davis walked across the street. Davis approached one of the men and was shot after a brief scuffle. Leroy Davis was 43 years old at the time of his death.
