Shortly after midnight on Friday, August 20th, 2010, Terry Whitlow and his friend Steven Pointer were leaning against the back of Pointer’s car, a red Chevy Lumina, in the apartment parking lot located at 508 South 6th Street when a man came up behind them and said, “Don’t run now,” before firing his gun once. Upon hearing the gunshot, Whitlow and Pointer both took off, one running to the left of the apartment building and the other running to the right of it. The gunman chased after Whitlow while firing and fatally struck him. The gunman’s voice was described as “raspy” or sounding as though he had teeth missing. Terry Whitlow was 22 years old at the time of his death.
