On Tuesday, February 24th, 2009, officers responded to the area of 11th Avenue South after hearing gunfire. When they arrived they found Matthew Lamont Hailey lying on the front porch of 1400 11th Avenue South deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. He had been shot in the street and made it to the porch before collapsing. The resident attempted to give aid to Hailey. Two men, described as black males wearing all black, had come around the corner of the house and began firing their weapons at Hailey. Matthew Lamont Hailey was 23 years old at the time of his death.
