On Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 at approximately 7:00pm, Roderick Alonso Thomas along with two co-workers had just closed and locked up Thrifty Car Sales, located at 2030 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. The co-workers noticed a white Chevy Trailblazer parked in the back of the lot and watched it follow Thomas as he turned left out of the parking lot. The two co-workers both turned right out of the parking lot and both were concerned and attempted to call Thomas within a few minutes of leaving, however neither of them were able to get through to him. Shortly after 7:00pm, dispatch received a call about a car accident near 50 Vantage Way. When officers arrived, they discovered Thomas deceased in his car as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Roderick Alonso Thomas was 54 years old at the time of his death.
