At approximately 10:00pm on Friday, February 29th, 2008, Jerry Wayne Gurney was walking on Thompson Place near Patricia Drive when he was approached by a young black male in front of Glenview Elementary School. The two were heard arguing before the black male shot at Gurney multiple times before running behind the school. Gurney was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Jerry Wayne Gurney was 42 years old at the time of his death.
