On Saturday, July 3rd, 2004 just before 11:00pm, Ruben Carapia Lopez was driving on Old Hickory Boulevard in his green Ford Ranger pickup when a gray 90s model 4-door Oldsmobile Cutlass pulled in behind him and was driving close to his bumper. The Cutlass followed Lopez on Old Hickory Boulevard to Lebanon Road where Lopez turned to head toward the Tulip Grove Apartments at 4701 Lebanon Road. After Lopez turned to drive into the apartment complex, the Cutlass drove past him and pulled in front of him. Lopez stopped his vehicle and the Cutlass backed up and pulled up next to him and began shooting at Lopez while he was seated in his Ranger. Lopez was struck multiple times and succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. Ruben Carapia Lopez was 20 years old at the time of his death.
