Shortly after 1:00am on Saturday, October 23rd, 1993, emergency services responded to what was thought to be a car accident involving a 4-door silver Ford Tempo which had gone off the road and through a fence into a field located off Hill Road at Franklin Pike Circle. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the driver, James Brandon Upchurch, and his passenger, Robert E. Netherton, had both been shot multiple times. Upchurch was deceased and Netherton was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. It was determined that the two young men were shot by a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle while it was moving and fled the scene. James Brandon Upchurch was 15 years old at the time of his death.
