Shortly before 10:00pm on Friday, November 16th, 1990, Vo Thi Phi Troung heard a knock at the front door of her house located at 4604 Packard Drive. Her 5 year old son ran to look out the window and Troung and her 6 year old daughter went to answer the door. When she opened the door, two young white males forced their way into the house. One grabbed Troung and one grabbed the daughter. A struggle ensued between Troung and the male that was holding her which resulted in Troung being struck in the head and then fatally shot. The two males then fled the house. The daughter attempted to help her stop her mother’s bleeding and called her father who was at work. He rushed home and finding his wife on the floor inside the front door, ran to get someone to call the ambulance. It is believed the two males were there with the intent to burglarize the house but after Troung was shot, they left without taking anything. The descriptions given by the daughter matched the descriptions of two males who had previously come by the house and borrowed a car jack to change a tire according to the husband. The first suspect was described as a young white male, 17-20 years old, shoulder length wavy brown hair, a light mustache, and a thin build wearing a leather jacket with silver chains. The second suspect was described as a white male, 17-20 years old, dark brown hair cut above the ears, silver ring in ear, and a stocky build with a deep voice. Vo Thi Phi Troung was 28 years old at the time of her death.
