At approximately 10:45am on Saturday August 5th, 1972 a 10 year old neighbor of Ann Elizabeth Owen saw her lying next to her front steps at 506 E. Iris Drive and went home to tell his mother who called the police. Owen had left her mother’s house at approximately 12:30pm and was attacked as she approached her front door. She had been raped and suffered fatal blunt force trauma. Ann Elizabeth Owen was 42 years old at the time of her death.
