At around 3:30am on Tuesday, October 12th, 1971, Larry Wootten was at the counter of the Myti Mini Market at 21st Ave. S. and Capers St. talking to the owner, James Eslick Daniel, when an unknown number of men came in to rob the market. The situation resulted in both Wootten and Daniel getting shot. At approximately 4:15am, patrol officers checking the business noticed the lock was off the door. When they opened the door and looked inside they saw the two men on the floor. Wootten had been fatally shot. Daniel, who was still breathing, was transported to the hospital where he spent three days in the intensive care unit before succumbing to his injuries on Friday, October 15th, 1971. Larry Joseph Wootten was 22 years old at the time of his death.
